Social care

Social care services help and support people to lead their lives in as independent a way as possible.

Users of services, their carers and families, can be vulnerable and dependent on the services they receive. They should therefore have a voice in the design, planning and monitoring of services. The SCC aims to support their voice.

Areas of interest include the following:

  • access to services
  • information for service users
  • complaints procedures
  • information sharing with other agencies
  • user charges for services

SCC policy work

We promote our policy and research findings with key organisations such as the Scottish Executive, social care providers in both the statutory and independent sectors, with regulatory bodies such as the Care Commission and the Social Work Inspection Agency, and with organisations which represent the interests of service users, such as local community care forums.

We respond to relevant consultations and participate in external committees and advisory groups.
